This project aims to deconstruct Western Colonial design dominance of visual imagery over the other senses by exploring closer detail elements through multisensorial principles and inverting the top-down conventional hierarchy of architectural design. The intervention foregrounds a connection to the community-driven process that is deeply embedded in Hogan’s Alley, a former Vancouver neighbourhood that was home to a large African-Canadian population. The designed elements of focus on this project are driven by Hogan’s Alley community aspirations.
